We had a call from a client based in Winchmore Hill who found our number through Which Trusted Trader. He lived in a period property with original features including the original entrance door. However, the original stained glass was no longer there and had been replaced with plain frosted glass. The client wanted both the front door panels to match the existing stained glass original side panels.
It was decided to take out the existing panels to remake, repair broken glass, clean off old paint and 90 years of dirt, so all panels would be in new polished lead, clean with no breakage. The client then produced an old broken leaded panel from his shed which had two parrots within the pattern. He had kept the panel for around 30 years from his old house and claimed to have always wanted to use it somehow! We were happy to help.
Taking on the challenge, we had a few discussions and it was decided to design a new pattern, incorporating the parrots which would fit into the front door. The two new panels were used to match the existing patterns. Designs were drawn and once approved, all the new panels were cut using glass types and colours closely matching the original panels.
Once Martin had cut the glass for the new panels, he then started to remake the stripped down and cleaned original panels. Afterwards, he started with the new matching panels, finally finishing with the new front door panel that had the client’s parrots as a main feature – a 30 year dream finally became a reality!
All the panels were glazed on the same day, providing a rush of colour for the clients with the parrots as the main feature.
