6 Interior Design Tips for Homeowners

6 Interior Design Tips for Homeowners

Every homeowner wants their home to impress guests! To help you create the ‘wow factor’ with your interior design, here are six simple tips…
1. Lighting
Lighting is a vital part of interior design. If you really want to impress your guests be sure to go for something that has an extraordinary design. For example, you could hang a huge pendant light in an entrance hall or you could add a quirky lamp to a lounge. Think about sculptural beauty and grabbing people’s attention.
2. Walls
If you are thinking about redecorating, what about something a little bit different? Rather than sticking to one shade of paint for the walls, you could choose some contrasting colours and create a geometric pattern using some low-tack masking tape. If you aren’t feeling that artistic you could always opt for a feature wall using wallpaper instead. Try installing wallpaper on a focal wall. This is usually where you would position your TV or hang a mirror.
3. Accessories
Add a splash of colour to any room with complementing accessories, such as curtains, pillows or bedding. Bed linen is a great way of tying a bedroom colour scheme together and the great thing is you can change it whenever you fancy something new. Add a throw and some scatter cushions and you’ll create the look of a stylish hotel in no time!
4. Rugs
If you want to introduce some warmth to the room, but you don’t want to invest in a new carpet you could consider a rug. A rug will help to soften the layout of a room and make it feel cosy. Go as bold as you like with the colour or pattern, as long as the rest of the room has a minimalist design. It also helps to place your rug in front of a chair or under a coffee table to create a strategic layered look.
5. Windows
Windows are often overlooked when updating the interior design of your home; however they can become the focal point of a room with a few simple changes. New curtains will freshen up the look of your windows, but to really add that ‘wow factor’ you should consider stained glass. You can add stained glass to one or all of your windows, and the designs can be completely bespoke. Stained glass will create a beautiful effect when the light shines through, adding a burst of colour to your home’s interior.
6. Art
Artwork is not only an eye catching feature to a room, but it is also a great way to add some personality to your home. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune either, you can support local artist and pick up a bargain at your local art fair or on a handmade website like Etsy.
